  codice bando: 4/2021 del 12/10/2021\,  Abstract: The European Green Deal 
 objectives open several new challenges in the fields of smart energy manag
 ement\, environmental protection\, smart transportation and circular econo
 my. To facilitate the green transition\, the design of new advanced contro
 l systems is required to enable new applications and services. This semina
 r will discuss different control problems relevant to environmental protec
 tion and the clean energy transition\, focusing on three application scena
 rios.(i) Demand-side management and optimal power flow in smart energy sys
 tems\, enabled by the shift of paradigm that the distributed renewable sou
 rces and energy storage devices introduced in power systems. The approach 
 to this control problem is based on Economic Model Predictive Control\, a 
 method that allows the exploitation of short-term generation and demand fo
 recasts.(ii) Forest protection and environmental monitoring systems\, enab
 led by the capabilities of advanced data analysis tools. The designed syst
 em integrates Deep Neural Networks into a control system to monitor a prot
 ected area.(iii) Communication networks\, as robust and reliant communicat
 ions enable advanced services and allow service provision in remote areas.
  The distributed control law proposed has been developed from Lyapunov arg
 uments and was proven to steer the network towards a non-cooperative equil
 ibrium.   Short Bio: Alessandro Giuseppi was born in 1992 and received fro
 m the University of Rome “La Sapienza” his M.Sc. degree in Control Enginee
 ring in 2016 and his Ph.D. in Automatica in 2019. Since 2016\, he has part
 icipated in 8 EU and National funded research projects and several other a
 pplied research studies\, mostly in the field of network control and intel
 ligent control system. He is currently collaborating with the no-profit re
 search consortium CRAT\, where he managed several research actions in the 
 Horizon 2020 programme. He received the awards “Premio Minerva - Engineeri
 ng”\, from the “Fondazione Roma Sapienza” for his research activities duri
 ng the PhD\, and the Telespazio Technology contest 2020 (#T-TeC)\, for pro
 posing an innovative scientific application in the aerospace field. He is 
 currently serving as an associate editor for the International Journal of 
 Control\, Automation and Systems (Springer). He authored about 40 papers i
 n international journals and conferences.

 \nAlessandro Giuseppi was born in 1992 and received from the University of
  Rome “La Sapienza” his M.Sc. degree in Control Engineering in 2016 and hi
 s Ph.D. in Automatica in 2019.\n\n\nCurrently\, he is a Tenure Track Resea
 rcher (RTT) in Automatic Control\, field for which he received in 2023 Nat
 ional Scientific Qualification for the position of Associate Professor (AS
 N 09/G1 II fascia)\, at the Department of Computer\, Control\, and Managem
 ent Engineering (DIAG) ''Antonio Ruberti'' of the same university.\n\n\nSi
 nce 2016\, he has participated in 12 EU and National funded research proje
 cts and several other applied funded research studies.\n\n\nHe is currentl
 y collaborating with the non-profit research consortium CRAT as both resea
 rcher and project manager in the scope of the Horizon Europe programme.\n
 \n\nIn 2023\, Alessandro was among the funding members of the Start-Up “Au
 tomation Intelligence and Control” (AICO)\, where he currently serves as C
 hief Technology Officer (CTO).\n\n\nAmong the awards he received are the t
 hird and fourth editions of the ''Minerva Prize''\, recognized for his res
 earch activity during his PhD studies and his first years as a researcher\
 , and the #T-TeC award\, issued by the company Telespazio spa for his appl
 ied research in the aerospace field.\n\n\nHe is currently an associate edi
 tor for the IEEE Transactions on Auomation Science and Engineering (T-ASE)
  and for the Journal of Control\, Automation\, and Systems (IJCAS) edited 
 by Springer.\n\n\nHis main research activities are in the fields of intell
