DESCRIPTION:Business processes are multimillion dollar assets in large firm
 s. Explicit representations of these processes in the form of process mode
ls are used to inform strategic decision making by various stakeholders an
d as blueprints for automation. However\, the large number of business pro
cesses within an organization\, their frequent changes and the variety of
process stakeholders and related purposes\, lead to significant challenges
in keeping these models aligned with corporate reality. In the worst case
\, entire process model collections become out-of-date and are slowly depr
ecated\, as new models are created from scratch. The result: headache for
your analysts and little value for your managers. This talk explores new r
esearch directions aiming at solving these important challenges by combini
ng techniques from process mining with those from the management of large
process model collections\, to empower process models with the ability to
self-adapt to organisational changes. Bio: Prof. Marcello La Rosa is the a
cademic director for corporate programs and partnerships at the Informatio
n Systems school of the Queensland University of Technology (QUT)\, and pr
incipal researcher at NICTA\, Brisbane\, Australia. His research interests
span different areas in business process management (BPM)\, including pro
cess consolidation\, mining and automation\, in which he published over 80
papers. He leads the Apromore initiative (www.apromore.org) – a strategic
collaboration between various universities for the development of an adva
nced process model repository\, and coordinates QUT’s professional trainin
g program on BPM (www.bpm-training.com). Marcello has taught BPM to practi
tioners and students in Australia and overseas for ten years. Based on thi
s experience\, he co-authored “Fundamentals of Business Process Management
” – the first comprehensive textbook on BPM\, which has influenced the cur
riculum of over 100 universities in the world. Recently\, using this book
he co-authored a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on BPM\, which has been
  delivered on QUT’s MOOC platform in Oct-Dec 2015 (http://moocs.qut.edu.au
 ).
