DESCRIPTION:In this talk I will present a recent line of work on (deformabl
 e) partial shape correspondence in the spectral domain. I will first intro
duce Partial Functional Maps (PFM)\, showing how to robustly formulate the
shape correspondence problem under missing geometry with the language of
functional maps. We use perturbation analysis to show how removal of shape
parts changes the Laplace-Beltrami eigenfunctions\, and exploit it as a p
rior on the spectral representation of the correspondence. I will then sho
w further extensions to deal with the presence of clutter (deformable obje
ct-in-clutter) and multiple pieces (non-rigid puzzles). The talk will be s
elf-contained: basic notions on spectral geometry and deformable shape ana
lysis will be introduced\, without assuming deep prior knowledge on these
 topics from the audience.Short Bio:Emanuele is a post-doctoral researcher
at Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI Lugano) since February 2016\, w
here he works in the group led by Prof. Michael Bronstein. Before that\, h
e was an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow in Prof. Daniel Cremers' Computer V
ision lab at TU Munich (2013-2016) and a JSPS Research Fellow at The Unive
rsity of Tokyo (Intelligent Systems and Informatics Lab\, 2013). His resea
rch interests focus on Shape Analysis\, matching\, and reconstruction\, an
d co-authored around 40 papers on these topics. He received a number of aw
ards\, including the Best Student Paper Award at 3DPVT 2010\, the Best Pap
er Award at VMV 2015\, and the Best Paper Award at SGP 2016. He has been s
erving in the program committees of the top rated conferences in computer
 vision (CVPR\, ICCV\, ECCV\, ACCV\, etc.)\, served as Area Chair at 3DV 20
16\, founded and chaired the first ECCV workshop on Geometry Meets Deep Le
arning (GMDL 2016)\, organized several Eurographics SHREC contests\, and w
as recognized as Outstanding Reviewer at CVPR (2013\, 2015\, 2016)\, ICCV
(2015)\, and ECCV (2014\, 2016). He gave tutorials and short courses in mu
ltiple occasions at EUROGRAPHICS\, ECCV\, and SIGGRAPH Asia. Emanuele's wo
rk on 3D reconstruction was featured by the national Italian television (R
 AI - Cose dell'altro Geo) in 2012.
